Kidd's Orange Red Step-Over

An excellent eating apple, no surprise due to it's parentage: Cox's Orange and Red Delicious, developed in New Zealand by John Kidd in 1924. The skin is a flushed orange red with a slight russet while the flesh is aromatic, crisp, sweet and creamy white. Always rates very high in apple tasting events. It stores well.

Important note on size. All my stepovers didnt make sufficient growth, and as such are sold as "small". In the paddock most got up to mid thigh (when in leaf!) and should do just fine. They've been discounted accordingly.

As we grow it on other rootstocks, be sure that you want it as a Step-over.

Pollination Guide

  • Pollination is far simpler than most people think. Generally, unless self fertile simply get 2 or more different varieties in the same group (eg pears) to ensure adequate pollination. A more comprehensive explanation can be found in our Pollination Guide
