This is a sought after variety and as this will be the final year I will be selling these trees, I am offering FRESHLY GRAFTED plants for you to grow on yourself. If you nursery this tree in a pot or in ideal veggie patch conditions, it should grow fine ready to move to the final spot in winter 2026. I find the strike rate of these grafts is 90-95% so you cannot expect every one to take.
Prunus mume or ume is a japanese "plum" (probably more of an apricot) used in making japanese plum wine and preserves. This variety was sourced from Rob Bester in Taroona, Tasmania. Vigorous tree, high quality fruit almost like a small apricot. This variety hasnt been tested elsewhere, although we're pretty sure like most mume, they are self-fertile or at least partially so. And would require winter chill. Interestingly, the tree hardly goes dormant, and shoots in springtime quite early.
