An excellent early apple, grown commercially widely across the world, and still available in many parts of Australia in local markets. Good sized fruit, when ripe this Gravenstein is almost completely red and ultra crisp. Tastes the same as the regular gravenstein. Sweet juicy crunchy flesh, it's distinct flavour signals the beginning of the apple season in earnest. Polishes well. Unfortunately in the commercial world they are often picked unripe in order to catch good early prices and so are often acidic when found in shops. Excellent eaten fresh but can be cooked and maker a very pleasant early cider too. Dont store for long as they are best eaten to make way for midseason apples.
