CUSTOM GRAFTING. We are able to graft (minimum 2) a particular variety for you and grow it for a year. $28 each for a one year old whip, or $22 for a graftling. Email us for details.

CONTRACT GROWING: We’re happy to grow larger numbers (>10) of your preferred variety and rootstock from our library of varieties. We only graft in multiples of 10. We require a deposit in advance and orders before August, and can ship them as graftlings for planting this winter or grow them for you for a year and ship them the following winter. Enquire for pricing.

ROOTSTOCKS: Explained briefly here in the context of apples.

A rootstock is an apple variety selected especially for it's disease resistance, health and vigor. They are grown in stool beds and are harvested from suckering up, so end up genetically identical to each other. They dont produce fruit of any quality, but when grafted with a good scion wood (a piece cut from another tree of a known variety) acts as a supporting stem and root system for that variety to grow. Each rootstock that we use influences the size of the tree that ends up growing. M27 is an extra dwarfing rootstock useful for step-over growing up to half a metre. M26 is our favoured rootstock which is ideal for espaliering growing up to 2-2.5m high. M106 is more vigorous, making the tree bigger again from 3-4m.
